The difference between a snapshot and a professional headshot

There is a clear gap between a snapshot taken on a phone and a professional headshot. A snapshot records your face. A headshot communicates who you are before you have spoken a word. That distinction matters on LinkedIn, on your company website, and in casting portfolios where the viewer makes a decision in under two seconds.

Most professionals I work with in Mallorca need updated headshots for a specific reason. They are launching a business, joining a board, or updating an acting portfolio. A strong headshot signals competence and approachability simultaneously. It does not look overly retouched or artificially lit. It looks like you, on a good day, with lighting that flatters bone structure and skin tone.

Portable studio: professional results without the studio visit

I do not shoot headshots in a fixed studio. I bring a portable lighting setup and neutral backdrop to your office, hotel, or home. This saves you travel time and lets us shoot in an environment where you are relaxed. The equipment fits in two bags and sets up in about twenty minutes. All I need is a room with reasonable ceiling height and enough floor space for a backdrop stand.

What does a portable headshot setup include?

  • Professional strobes or continuous LED lights — controlled, flattering light regardless of window position.
  • Neutral backdrop options — gray, white, or textured depending on your brand needs.
  • Reflector and flag set — to shape light and eliminate unwanted shadows.
  • Tethered shooting — so you can see images on a screen as we work.
  • Quick breakdown — the space is usable again within ten minutes of finishing.

Preparing for your headshot session

Preparation is straightforward and often overthought by clients. Solid colors photograph better than busy patterns. Bring two or three tops so we have variety without changing the entire look. Grooming should be natural, not theatrical. If you wear makeup daily, apply it as you normally would. The goal is not to transform you but to present the version of yourself that already shows up to meetings.

Headshot preparation checklist

  • Wear solid colors that complement your skin tone. Avoid neon and large logos.
  • Bring two or three tops for variety — business casual and formal options.
  • Get a haircut at least one week before the shoot so it looks natural.
  • Stay hydrated. It affects skin tone more than most people realize.
  • Sleep well. The camera sees fatigue immediately.

Session efficiency and fast delivery

Sessions are efficient. Most headshot shoots take forty-five minutes to an hour including setup and several outfit changes. I deliver a same-day proof gallery for clients who need to select an image urgently. Final retouched files follow within forty-eight hours, delivered in web and print resolutions. If you need multiple looks for different platforms, we can shoot them in a single session and deliver cropped versions optimized for LinkedIn, Twitter, corporate intranets, and press use.

For corporate teams, I offer half-day and full-day packages. I set up a portable studio in your office and photograph each team member in about fifteen minutes. This ensures consistent lighting and background across every headshot. It also minimizes disruption to your workday. Most team sessions are completed during lunch hours or between meetings.

Types of headshot clients I work with

  • Corporate executives — board portraits, annual report imagery, and internal communications.
  • Entrepreneurs and coachespersonal branding headshots for websites and social media.
  • Actors and models — casting headshots that meet agency standards.
  • Legal and financial professionals — conservative, authoritative portraits for firm websites.
  • Tech teams — approachable, modern headshots for startup About pages.

Frequently asked questions

A standard headshot session includes five to ten final retouched images. Corporate team sessions include one to three final images per person. All files are delivered in high resolution for print and web-optimized sizes for online use.

A headshot is typically from the chest up, focused on the face, with a neutral or simple background. A portrait can be full-body, environmental, or artistic. If you need both, we can combine them in a single session.

Yes. Outdoor headshots work beautifully in Mallorca during the golden hour. I use natural light with subtle reflectors to keep the look professional. Outdoor sessions are ideal for personal branding and creative portfolios.

No. My retouching is conservative. I adjust color, exposure, and remove temporary blemishes. I do not change bone structure or smooth skin to the point of plasticity. The goal is to look like you on your best day, not a different person.

If you are based in Palma, Soller, Deia, or anywhere along the coast, I can usually schedule a headshot session within a few days. A quick phone call is enough to figure out what you need, where you are, and what the lighting situation looks like at your location.
