HDR, or high dynamic range imaging, is essential for interior work in Mallorca. The contrast between a bright terrace and a shaded living room can be extreme, especially during summer. I shoot multiple exposures of each scene and blend them to create a final image that shows detail in both highlights and shadows. The result looks natural, not artificial. The viewer should not notice the technique, only the fact that the room looks inviting and well-lit.
When is the best time to photograph a property?
The ideal time depends on the orientation of the building. South-facing terraces photograph best in the morning, before the sun hits them directly. North-facing interiors are often softer at midday. I scout every property beforehand and plan the shoot schedule around the sun's path. This extra planning is why a three-bedroom villa shoot takes three to four hours rather than thirty minutes.
